Schoharie County sits west of Albany and Schenectady along the I-88 corridor toward Binghamton. It is the rural western edge of the Capital Region, characterized by dairy farms, the Schoharie Creek valley, and the northeastern Catskill foothills. Anchored by Cobleskill (home to SUNY Cobleskill, a public technical college focused on agriculture and technology), Schoharie (the county seat, on the Schoharie Creek), Middleburgh, Sharon Springs (a historic mineral-spring resort village), Richmondville, and Esperance. The region was severely impacted by Hurricane Irene flooding in 2011 and has since been a focus of recovery and resilience investment.
