The northern band of the Lehigh Valley along the MacArthur Road / Route 145 corridor. Anchored by Whitehall Township (home of the Lehigh Valley Mall and major retail along MacArthur Road), the Borough of Northampton (along the Lehigh River), Catasauqua (a historic iron-making village), Coplay (a historic cement town), Cementon, and the Slate Belt fringe including Slatington (the traditional Lehigh Valley slate-quarrying center). The region is the historic heartland of Pennsylvania cement production — Portland cement was named for the Portland area just north.
