The Slate Belt & North Northampton

PA-33 / PA-512 / US-209 / PA-191

The far northern 'Slate Belt' of Northampton County — the historic American slate-quarrying region along the Kittatinny Ridge. Anchored by Bangor (the largest Slate Belt town), Pen Argyl, Wind Gap, Portland (at the Delaware Water Gap crossing), Roseto (a small borough famous as the site of the 'Roseto Effect' heart disease study and its unique Italian-American immigrant heritage), East Bangor, Chapman, and the small boroughs of Plainfield Township, Upper Mount Bethel, Lower Mount Bethel, and Washington Township. The region is rural-industrial with small former quarrying towns and the rolling Kittatinny foothills.
