A collection of communities northeast of the Anchorage Bowl along the Glenn Highway, tucked between Knik Arm and Chugach State Park. Eagle River (pop. ~22,000) is the anchor -- a family-oriented bedroom community about 13 miles from downtown Anchorage. Farther north, Chugiak, Peters Creek, Birchwood, and Eklutna offer increasingly rural, wooded living. Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) sits between Eagle River and the Anchorage Bowl.
