Girdwood (pop. ~2,000) is a year-round community anchored by the Alyeska Resort ski area, with a village atmosphere, art galleries, and restaurants. The drive along Turnagain Arm -- a narrow fjord with bore tides and mountain views -- is one of the most scenic commutes in America. Part of the Municipality of Anchorage.
