Carroll County sits northwest of Baltimore at the edge of the Piedmont, along the I-795/MD-140 corridor. Anchored by Westminster (the county seat, home to McDaniel College and the Carroll County Farm Museum). The region also includes Eldersburg, Sykesville, Mount Airy (straddling the Frederick/Carroll/Howard county lines), Hampstead, Manchester, Taneytown, Union Mills, New Windsor, and Finksburg. The county is a transitional area between Baltimore suburbs and rural Maryland farm country, known for its rolling terrain, horse farms, and historic small towns.
