Mandan and the surrounding Morton County communities, across the Missouri River from Bismarck. Mandan (pop. ~24,000) is the third-largest city in the Bismarck MSA and contains Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park (where George Custer's 7th Cavalry departed for the Battle of the Little Bighorn), the On-A-Slant Mandan Indian Village, and historic Mandan rail yards. The smaller Morton County communities include Lincoln (actually in Burleigh County but adjacent to Mandan), Hebron, New Salem, Glen Ullin, and Flasher.
