Danbury & Housatonic Valley (Upper Fairfield)

I-84 / US-7 / US-202 / CT-25 / Metro-North Danbury Branch

The northern interior of Fairfield County along the Housatonic River and I-84 corridor. Anchored by Danbury — the 'Hat City' (historic center of the American hat-making industry) and now one of Connecticut's fastest-growing cities, home to Western Connecticut State University and the Danbury Fair Mall. The region includes Bethel, Brookfield, Newtown (a large historic town centered on the Flagpole — the town's iconic 1876 flagpole in the middle of Main Street — with the hamlet of Sandy Hook), Ridgefield (an upscale historic town with a renowned library and the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum), Redding (rural), New Fairfield (on Candlewood Lake, the largest lake in Connecticut), and Sherman (small northern town at the Litchfield County border).
