The Tonawandas & Grand Island
I-190 / NY-266 River Rd / NY-324 Grand Island
The 'Tonawandas' are a triad of municipalities along the Niagara River: the Town of Tonawanda (in Erie County, the densest first-ring suburb), the City of Tonawanda (also in Erie County), and North Tonawanda (in Niagara County). The region also includes the Village of Kenmore (within the Town of Tonawanda) and the Town of Grand Island — the largest river island in the Niagara River, connected to the mainland by the North and South Grand Island Bridges (I-190). Grand Island is home to the Martin's Fantasy Island amusement park and the Beaver Island and Buckhorn Island State Parks.
