Ranch subdivision built on a former WWII-era airstrip north of Casper
Bar Nunn is a 3,000-resident town north of Casper built on the site of Wardwell Field, Natrona County's original municipal airport. Rancher Romie Nunn purchased the 640-acre former airfield in 1954 for $20,500 and subdivided it in 1958, turning runways into streets and laying out homes along them. The result is a distinctive elongated street grid still visible from the air. The town incorporated in 1980 and has grown 35% since 2010, with some of the newest housing stock in the state. It carries a notably high homeownership rate (95.8%) and the highest median household income (~$99K) among Casper's three suburbs. A new municipal police department launched in 2025, with full operations expected by mid-2026.
Built on the former Wardwell Field airstrip (1930-1952). Streets follow the old runway alignment. The town launched its own police department in 2025 — previously served solely by the Natrona County Sheriff's Office.

Wyoming's Oil City on the North Platte
Casper is Wyoming's second-largest city with a population of ~59,038, sitting at 5,150 feet on the high plains at the foot of Casper Mountain along the North Platte River. Nicknamed 'The Oil City' for the Salt Creek Oil Field boom that built the town from the 1890s through the 1920s, Casper remains an energy sector hub while having diversified into healthcare (Banner Wyoming Medical Center), education (Casper College, 140+ programs), and outdoor recreation tourism. The North Platte River's Grey Reef section is a nationally ranked blue-ribbon trout fishery, and the city-owned Hogadon Basin Ski Area sits atop Casper Mountain just 8 miles from downtown. Median home prices hover around $300K with no state income tax, no corporate tax, and a combined 5% sales tax rate. The Old Yellowstone District anchors a growing craft-beer and dining scene, while four museums — the Nicolaysen Art Museum, National Historic Trails Interpretive Center, Tate Geological Museum, and Fort Caspar Museum — provide cultural depth unusual for a city this size.
Casper is both the primary city and Natrona County seat. This profile covers the incorporated city of ~59,038; internal neighborhoods (Old Yellowstone District, Wolcott Heights, North Casper, Sunrise, Mountain View neighborhood, etc.) are Phase C scope. The city sits at the crossroads of the historic Oregon Trail, Mormon Trail, and Pony Express route — Fort Caspar Museum preserves a reconstructed 1865 military post at the original North Platte River crossing.
