North Charleston & Elk River Valley

I-79 / Elk River

The communities north of Charleston along the Elk River valley and I-79 corridor. Sissonville, the largest CDP in this direction, sits along the Pocatalico River on WV Route 21 heading toward Ripley. Pinch and Elkview line the Elk River northeast of the city, connected by WV Route 119. Farther upstream, the town of Clendenin sits at the confluence of the Elk River and Big Sandy Creek, served by KRT bus service. This region is more rural and wooded than the Kanawha River corridor, with affordable housing and a country-suburban character.
