South Hills & Kanawha City

The established residential neighborhoods south and east of downtown Charleston along the south bank of the Kanawha River. South Hills is the most sought-after neighborhood in the metro, known for its winding hillside streets, architecturally distinctive homes, excellent schools, and Bridge Road shopping. Kanawha City, annexed into Charleston in 1929, features the longest commercial corridor in the city and a walkable, mixed-use character. Farther southeast along the Kanawha River corridor (US-60/I-64), the communities of Malden, Rand, Belle, Marmet, and Chesapeake form a string of small river towns with chemical industry heritage.
