The northeast corridor anchored by Concord and Kannapolis along I-85 and the US-29 corridor. Cabarrus County is home to Charlotte Motor Speedway, the NASCAR Hall of Fame's spiritual home, and the bustling Concord Mills mega-mall. Concord (pop. 96,000+) and Kannapolis (pop. 53,000+) are the largest cities, with Harrisburg and Midland rounding out the suburban communities closest to Charlotte. The region features a mix of historic downtown revitalization (Kannapolis downtown, transformed by David Murdock's investment), newer suburban development, and proximity to the Research Campus at Kannapolis. I-85 and the Concord-Padgett Regional Airport provide strong transportation links. Commutes to Uptown Charlotte run 25-40 minutes via I-85 or I-485.
