Union County

The fast-growing suburban and exurban corridor southeast of Charlotte in Union County, stretching from Matthews and Mint Hill (in eastern Mecklenburg) through Indian Trail, Stallings, Weddington, Waxhaw, and Marvin to Monroe. This region is one of the metro's fastest-growing areas, driven by excellent Union County Public Schools, large-lot residential development, and relative affordability compared to south Mecklenburg. Matthews (pop. 34,000+) and Mint Hill (pop. 26,400+) are established inner-ring suburbs; Indian Trail (pop. 44,000+) and Waxhaw are booming outer-ring towns. Monroe (pop. 39,000+) is the Union County seat with a revitalized historic downtown. Commutes to Uptown Charlotte run 25-45 minutes via Independence Boulevard (US-74), I-485, or NC-16.
