Unincorporated Ranching Community on WY-214
Carpenter is an unincorporated community of roughly 97 residents in southeastern Laramie County, about 30 miles from downtown Cheyenne via Wyoming Highway 214. Founded in 1907 as a rail stop on the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, the community was developed by James R. Texas Trail Town at the Wyoming-Nebraska Border
Pine Bluffs is a 1,172-resident incorporated town at the Wyoming-Nebraska border, 45 miles east of Cheyenne along I-80. Founded in 1868 when the Union Pacific Railroad arrived, it was a stop on the original Texas Cattle Trail and remains a working agricultural town surrounded by dryland wheat and cattle country. The Texas Trail Museum complex and the University of Wyoming's Windows on the Past archaeology dig make it one of the more culturally distinctive small towns in the metro.
