Northeast Columbia

I-77 NE

The fast-growing suburban corridor northeast of downtown along I-77 and US-21, stretching from Dentsville and the Village at Sandhill through Pontiac and Killian to the town of Blythewood near the Fairfield County line. This is one of the metro's fastest-growing areas, anchored by Richland School District Two -- consistently rated among the state's top districts. Blythewood has emerged as a popular family destination with newer subdivisions, and the Elgin area at the Kershaw County border features master-planned communities like Woodcreek Farms. Fort Jackson, the U.S. Army's largest basic training installation, occupies 52,000 acres on the eastern edge of the corridor.
