The population and commercial center of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Gulfport (pop. 72,926) is the state's second-largest city, with the Port of Gulfport, a historic downtown, and miles of beach along Highway 90. Surrounding communities include Long Beach to the west, D'Iberville across the Back Bay to the northeast, and Lyman inland along US-49. The area is anchored by the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport and connected by I-10, US-49, and Highway 90.
