West Maui

The historic western coast anchored by Lahaina, once the capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom and a thriving whaling port. The August 2023 wildfire devastated Lahaina town, displacing thousands and reshaping the community; recovery and rebuilding are ongoing. North of Lahaina, the resort corridor of Kaanapali, Napili-Honokowai, and Kapalua continues to draw visitors and supports a resident workforce. West Maui is geographically separated from Central Maui by the West Maui Mountains, connected primarily by Honoapiilani Highway.
