Bourbon County & Northeast

Paris Pike NE

The rural northeast quadrant of the metro, centered on Paris -- the Bourbon County seat and namesake of America's most famous whiskey. Paris Pike (US-27/US-68) connects Paris to Lexington through some of the most picturesque horse farm scenery in the Bluegrass, passing estates with black plank fences and stone walls. The county's smaller communities of Millersburg and North Middletown preserve a quiet, agricultural character. Despite modest populations, Bourbon County's cultural significance to the region's identity is outsized.

Namesake of Bourbon Whiskey & Secretariat's Farm
Paris is the Bourbon County seat and the namesake of bourbon whiskey — the spirit, the county, and the town all draw their name from the French House of Bourbon, honored by Kentucky for King Louis XVI's Revolutionary War aid. The 18-mile Paris Pike from downtown Lexington is a Kentucky Scenic Byway through horse-farm country, and Claiborne Farm on the edge of town is the final resting place of Secretariat.
