French Quarter, Marigny & Bywater

The oldest neighborhoods in New Orleans, stretching along the Mississippi River from the French Quarter downriver through Faubourg Marigny, Bywater, and the Holy Cross area. The French Quarter is the city's historic core and tourism center. The Marigny is the live music capital, centered on Frenchmen Street. Bywater is an arts-oriented neighborhood with brightly painted Creole cottages. Treme, the oldest African-American neighborhood in the nation, borders the Quarter to the north. The CBD and Warehouse District provide the city's modern commercial core.
