River Parishes

I-10 / River Rd

The communities along the Mississippi River corridor west of Jefferson Parish in St. Charles, St. John the Baptist, and St. James parishes. Destrehan and Luling in St. Charles Parish are bedroom communities for New Orleans workers, while LaPlace in St. John the Baptist Parish is the largest community in this region. The area is characterized by antebellum plantations along the River Road, petrochemical industry, and a more rural, small-town character. The I-310 and I-10 corridors provide commuter access to Metairie and downtown New Orleans.
