Black Hills (Pennington County)

US-16 / US-385

The Pennington County portion of the Black Hills west of Rapid City, including Keystone (the closest town to Mount Rushmore, population ~340 but a major tourist destination), Hill City (home of the 1880 Train and the Museum at Black Hills Institute), Rockerville, Hermosa, and the Black Hills National Forest. Mount Rushmore National Memorial is in this region, as are Crazy Horse Memorial (in adjacent Custer County), the Needles Highway scenic drive, and Custer State Park (in Custer County). The region is heavily tourism-oriented.
