Orleans County sits northwest of Monroe County between Lake Ontario and the NYS Thruway along the Erie Canal. Anchored by Albion (the county seat, a historic Erie Canal town with notable 19th-century Medina sandstone architecture), Medina (another canal town famous for its distinctive red Medina sandstone quarries), Holley, Lyndonville, Kendall, Point Breeze (Lake Ontario), and the rural agricultural communities of western Orleans County. The region is characterized by apple orchards, fruit farms, and the Erie Canal.
