South Bay

The diverse, rapidly growing corridor between downtown San Diego and the U.S.-Mexico border, anchored by Chula Vista — San Diego County's second-largest city at 275,000+ residents. National City, a compact industrial-residential city on San Diego Bay, and Imperial Beach, the southwesternmost city in the continental United States, round out the incorporated communities. Large master-planned developments in eastern Chula Vista (Otay Ranch, Eastlake) have fueled population growth, while western Chula Vista and National City retain older, walkable neighborhoods. The MTS Blue Line Trolley runs from downtown through National City and Chula Vista to the San Ysidro border crossing — one of the busiest international land ports in the world.
