Williamsburg & James City County
The historic Colonial Triangle at the northwestern edge of Hampton Roads, encompassing the independent city of Williamsburg (pop. 15,425) and James City County (pop. 76,523). Williamsburg is defined by Colonial Williamsburg — the world's largest living-history museum — and the College of William & Mary (founded 1693), giving the area an academic and cultural character unique in the metro. James City County has grown rapidly, with master-planned communities like New Town, Stonehouse, and Ford's Colony attracting families and retirees. The county straddles I-64 between Richmond and the Peninsula, providing a quieter, more affordable alternative to the core Hampton Roads cities while remaining within commuting distance via I-64. Busch Gardens and Water Country USA add a tourism economy that complements the area's colonial heritage sites.
