Davidson County

The southeastern portion of the metro area, anchored by the cities of Thomasville and Lexington and the town of Midway. This historically furniture- and manufacturing-driven region is undergoing an economic transition. Thomasville is Davidson County's largest city with a revitalizing downtown, while Lexington is famous nationwide as the 'Barbecue Capital of the World' and hosts the annual Lexington Barbecue Festival. I-85 crosses the county's eastern edge, and I-85 Business/US-29 connects Thomasville and Lexington. The area offers the metro's most affordable housing with easy access to both Winston-Salem (via I-40) and Greensboro (via I-85).
